In 2005, Jewish-Detroiter singer-songwriter Daniel Kahn (on vocals, accordion & piano) formed the Painted Bird in Berlin & shortly after they released their debut album, The Broken Tongue. K ahn brings his unique brand of Yiddish music to punk clubs, theatres, festivals & shtetls from Berlin, Krakow, Minsk & Moscow to Detroit, Boston, New York & New Orleans....and for one night only: Philly, teaming up with local klezmer musicians extraordinaire: Dan Blacksberg, Ari Folman Cohen & Mike Winograd. Like the grotesque Jerzy Kozinski novel from which they take their name, The Painted Bird reminds us that even if man is only an animal, he can still sing.
